Monday Roundup - Week 7

0:00|0:00

Ohio State ended Indiana’s 22-game winning streak in a 19–15 finish, while UCLA stayed unbeaten with a 17–7 win over Wisconsin. The Week 7 roundup covers the rest of the Big Ten results, the early conference title picture, and next Saturday’s slate, including Indiana at Michigan and Michigan State at UCLA.

Chapter 1

Cold Open

Cole Brennan

Nick Marsh's left foot hit the white paint. Ohio State 19, Indiana 15. One minute and two seconds left in Bloomington, and a wide open Marsh had what looked like the go ahead touchdown. He knew it before the crowd did. Hands on his helmet. Ohio State ran out the clock.

Cole Brennan

I'm Cole Brennan. This is the Monday Roundup for Week 7 on This Week in the Big Ten, brought to you by Jellypod AI. Last week I told you four unbeatens were paired off and the unbeaten ranks would drop to two at most. Here's how it settled. Ohio State beat Indiana. UCLA beat Wisconsin 17 to 7. That leaves the Buckeyes and the Bruins, and nobody else.

Chapter 2

Results Board

Cole Brennan

Start with Ohio State. The defending national champions snapped Indiana's 22 game winning streak and its 19 game home streak. It was Curt Cignetti's first home loss at Indiana. Julian Sayin hit Jeremiah Smith for a 38 yard touchdown on fourth and 1 early in the fourth quarter to make it 19 to 7. Then Sayin left with a right arm injury. Ryan Day says he'll be out several weeks. Freshman Luke Fahey finished the game. Indiana's Josh Hoover threw 296 yards, but he lost a fumble, his first turnover of the season.

Cole Brennan

UCLA 17, Wisconsin 7 at the Rose Bowl. Backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach made his first start for Nico Iamaleava and went 22 of 33 for 264 yards. The Bruins are 6 and 0 for the first time since 2022. Wisconsin took 10 penalties for 102 yards, and safety Matt Jung was ejected for targeting in the fourth quarter.

Cole Brennan

Oregon 17, Nebraska 14. Oregon trailed 14 to 6 in the fourth quarter with its third string starter, Brock Thomas, at quarterback. Dylan Raiola came off the bench against his old school. He drove 82 yards on 20 plays and hit Jamari Johnson from four yards out with 28 seconds left. Hudson Lewis caught the two point conversion. Nebraska has now lost a fourth quarter lead two weeks in a row.

Cole Brennan

Michigan 21, Penn State 18. Kyle Whittingham benched Bryce Underwood at halftime and went with Tommy Carr, who scored the deciding 12 yard touchdown run with 2:58 left. It's Whittingham's first Big Ten win at Michigan. Penn State is 0 and 4 in the league.

Cole Brennan

Northwestern 24, Michigan State 21. Jackson Kleather kicked a 34 yard field goal with two seconds left. Pat Fitzgerald beat the program he coached for 17 seasons.

Cole Brennan

Rutgers 37, Maryland 30. Rutgers trailed 23 to 13 at the half and scored 24 straight. Dylan Lonergan threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns, and KJ Duff had nine catches for 113 yards.

Cole Brennan

And Friday night, Washington beat Purdue 38 to 26. Elijah Brown threw for 302 yards.

Chapter 3

Indy Picture and Next Saturday

Cole Brennan

Now the Indianapolis picture, and I'll stick to what the standings say. Ohio State is 4 and 0 in the Big Ten. UCLA is 4 and 0. Those are the only two teams without a conference loss. Ohio State also holds the head to head win over Indiana, which is 3 and 1 and has to chase. USC is 3 and 1 as well. Seven teams sit at one conference loss, including Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oregon and Wisconsin. It's early. But the lead belongs to the Buckeyes and the Bruins.

Cole Brennan

One caution on Ohio State. The Buckeyes have a bye next, then visit No. 19 USC on October 31. They'll do it without Sayin.

Cole Brennan

Saturday, October 24. At noon Eastern, No. 6 Indiana goes to Michigan on FOX. Same time, Rutgers visits No. 24 Northwestern on Peacock. At 3 Eastern on BTN, Oregon is at Illinois. At 3:30, Michigan State visits No. 9 UCLA on CBS. Also at 3:30 on FS1, No. 15 Iowa is at Minnesota for Floyd of Rosedale. The night game on NBC: No. 16 USC at Wisconsin. Maryland, Nebraska, Penn State, Purdue, Washington and Ohio State are all off.

Cole Brennan

That's the Monday Roundup. Indiana's response comes in Ann Arbor. See you Saturday.
